If you’ve been hankering after a Bella Freud jumper since the early 2000s, but could never justify the price – you’re in luck! Tomorrow (October 17) at 8am, the London-based fashion designer is launching an affordable collection with Marks and Spencer.

After the likes of Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne, Kristen Stewart and Olivia Wilde (to name a few) were first spotted in the ‘Queen of Slogan Sweaters’ merch, we’ve desperately wanted to add the staple knit into our own wardrobe – and now we can.

Taking a trip down memory lane recently at the M&S archive in Leeds, Bella really soaked up the brand’s rich history, before diving into the design process with the M&S team in London.

The result? A stunning 27-piece collection that marries tradition with fashion. Think uniform-inspired pieces, Bella’s love for graphic packaging, and a mix of tailoring, slogan knits, and matching accessories.

This capsule collection really is, a dream for outfit enthusiasts. Featuring a modern palette of easy neutrals, soft pastels, and vibrant pops of colour.

Key pieces include wool blend flared pinstripe trousers, a matching pinstripe jacket, chunky merino wool blend jumpers, and luxurious 100% cashmere roll necks. And let’s not forget the everyday essentials like the 100% silk tie neck shirt.

When it comes to Bella’s must-have? The suit. It’s versatile, chic, and can be dressed up or down depending on your mood.

Trust us when we say, we’re adding that to basket…

‘The standout piece for me is the suit. I wanted to create a capsule of interchangeable pieces that work for any occasion. If you have a suit, you’re always set. I’m thrilled we included both trouser and miniskirt options to pair with the suit jacket. The miniskirt addition feels so right for now,’ said Bella, when recently asked about her collab with M&S.

Working with the M&S design team was a blast for Bella. From brainstorming at the archive to sketching in her London studio and seeing the collection come to life during the campaign shoot, every detail was meticulously crafted. Bella even hand-drew the statement words and phrases on the knitwear and bags, giving each piece her signature touch.

Bella adds, ‘Collaborating with M&S was fantastic. We were on the same page, excited about blending fashion with tradition. This collection feels like something I’d create for Bella Freud, but it’s so much more accessible. The quality and price are just amazing.’

Maddy Evans, M&S Womenswear Director commented: ‘It’s been an incredible experience, working alongside the fashion designer Bella Freud on this collaborative project and I know this is echoed by the wider Womenswear team. It’s a great feeling to be able to support an independent designer. Introducing her signature style and coveted designs to a wider audience and giving customers exclusive access to a collection and designer, that’s unique and not available elsewhere on the high-street. The 27-piece edit supports key styles our customers are looking for at this time of year, from statement knitwear pieces, synonymous with Bella’s brand, through to on trend tailoring which feels elevated and premium. We’ve also championed luxury fabrications throughout the designs, from 100% silk shirts to 100% cashmere jumpers, providing customers with something really special this winter’.

The 27-piece collection lands on M&S.com and in 30 selected stores across the UK tomorrow, October 17, with prices ranging from £15 for the Divine Feminine and Nature Bags to £139 for the Divine Feminine Cashmere Jumper. The knitwear pieces are available in sizes XS-XL, and the wider collection comes in sizes 6-24, including Short, Regular, and Long leg lengths – woo.

Credit and debit cards at the ready… we feel like getting anything might be harder than Glastonbury tickets!
