THE Tesla app, which customers use to communicate with their smart cars remotely, has crashed for a number of users.

People having issues with the app say they are being met with a banner warning their device has “no internet connection” – even when it is connected to Wi-Fi.

The Tesla app is largely used to control and monitor the vehicle from afar.

It can track a Tesla vehicle’s location, lock or unlock it, monitor the car’s battery range, turn up the AC and even put it into valet mode.

Tesla owners have flocked to social media platform X to see whether it is a widespread problem.

“Is everyone’s Tesla app working ok?,” one customer asked.

“Just noticed mines been saying “no internet connection” for maybe all night, yet most other things on my phone are ok.”

Another added: “Is anyone else’s Tesla app being weird? My car is just completely gone from my app and I can’t access any of the controls, or see any of my insurance information.

“I can’t wait to get rid of this car.”

Others have said they can communicate with their car through a third party app, but not with Tesla’s official platform.

The outage appears to be isolated to customers in the UK, US and Australia.

It is currently unclear if the problem is a server-side issue, meaning it can only be fixed by Tesla.

There has been some speculation that the issues have followed iPhone owners who installed Apple’s recent iOS 18 update, though this hasn’t been confirmed.

Tesla’s most recent update, titled 4.36.7, was issued last week with a handful of minor fixes.

A third user tweeted: “@Tesla what’s happened with the new app version v4.36.7-2856, it doesn’t doesn’t work.

“It accepts my account details but is very slow to start up and then doesn’t have any products identified.”

Similar incidents have occurred before, with one Tesla app outage in 2021 leaving owners worldwide unable to connect to their cars.

The incident in 2021 followed a new update to the mobile app days prior, which is believed to have triggered the outage.

How to fix Tesla app

The general advice for when an app crashes is to shut it down completely and reopen it, uninstall the app and then reinstall, or turn the entire device off for 10 seconds.

However, users who say they’ve uninstalled the app, and even updated the app to an older software version, continue to report issues.

“I’m glad it’s not just me, I updated to 2024.32.3 hoping that would fix the issue and it still isn’t working,” a user wrote on X.

“Reinstalled app twice. Nothing.”
