More int’l backing for Moroccan control over Sahara enclave --[Reported by Umva mag]

Luis Filipe Tavares, a former foreign minister of Cape Verde, urged Morocco’s allies to step up their support for the kingdom’s territorial integrity over the Western Sahara enclave.

According to Tavares, it is not enough to simply promote increased cooperation with Morocco, but its partners must also actively mobilise to defend its territorial integrity.

The former foreign minister of Cape Verde was echoing the words of King Mohammed VI, who, in a speech delivered at the opening of the first session of the fourth year of the 11th Moroccan legislature, stressed the need for constant vigilance and sustained diplomatic efforts to protect the kingdom’s territorial integrity, particularly on the issue of Western Sahara.

Tavares affirmed that solidarity among nations is crucial when it comes to Morocco’s territorial integrity.

In an article published on the Maroc Diplomatique website, he said: “This message resonates as a powerful call for national unity and collective vigilance, underlining the crucial importance of this cause for Morocco’s territorial integrity and identity. Tavares stressed that the fight for territorial integrity is not limited to political issues, but is a civic duty that unites nations and peoples.

Every citizen and institution, he insisted, “must play its part in defending Moroccan sovereignty”.

He also spoke of the importance of forming a united front in the face of potential threats.

In his inaugural address for the legislative year, King Mohammed VI highlighted the growing international support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, an observation shared by Tavares. “It is imperative that our efforts continue because we, as political leaders and friends of Morocco, have a sacred duty to convince more states of the undeniable legitimacy of this cause, based on solid legal, political and historical arguments,” Tavares said.

He also highlighted the growing recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the enclave by influential powers such as the United States, France and Spain. This development is a major diplomatic victory that reflects Morocco’s constant efforts on the international stage.

The sovereign called for sustained efforts to consolidate these gains, while stressing the importance of national unity, economic development and active diplomacy in maintaining Morocco’s position on the Western Sahara issue.

“Despite all that has been achieved, the next stage requires greater mobilisation and vigilance on everyone’s part. The aim is to continue to consolidate our country’s position, to make our just cause known and to thwart the maneuvers of our enemies,” King Mohammed VI concluded.
