Sega unveils new game in long-running franchise but it isn’t at all what fans were expecting --[Reported by Umva mag]

SEGA have been on a roll this year delivering fans some of the most popular games of 2024. This year alone we’ve seen Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload, both of which are Game of the Year contenders. SegaMajima is not only the protagonist but also a pirate[/caption] And the year’s not over yet, the new Atlus RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio seems poised to clean up at the annual award shows. That’s not counting games like Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble, Two Point Museum and Sonic X Shadow Generations, all of which have their passionate fans. Sega has blown fans away this year, and still managed to surprise them with a late in the year announcement. While people were expecting a new game from Ryu Ga Gotoku, the studio behind the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, the game that was revealed was still surprising. Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was recently announced by Ryu Ga Gotoku at the RGG Summit Showcase. It features fan-favourite character Goro Majima in the leading role, and is a spin-off from Infinite Wealth that was released earlier this year. It’s the first time that Majima will be the sole protagonist in a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game, though he shared the role with long-time star Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza 0. Like Infinite Wealth it is set in Hawaii, when Majima washes up on an island without his memories. Majima will also have a new fighting style to complement his well-established and fast-paced Mad Dog-style. The new stance is called Sea Dog-style, and will play into Majima’s new role as a pirate. It is also said to have naval combat, which will be a first for the series which is usually stuck to city life. There were rumours that the next game from Ryu Ga Gotoku would be pirate-themed, but it seemed so outlandish that people didn’t believe it. However, we now know it’s real, and that it stars everyone’s favourite character in the leading role. Fans will have to wait a little longer before they see Majima in all his pirate glory and it won’t launch until next year. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will launch on February 27, 2024, for Steam, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. There is no Nintendo Switch announcement, but with Yakuza Kiwami releasing soon on Switch there is still hope for fans.
