BRUSSELS – Migration in the European Union needs radical and strict solutions. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico on Thursday, October 17, at the beginning of the EU summit in Brussels.

The Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced on Wednesday that at the meeting of the European Council, Czechia and several member countries of the Union will meet in an effort to convince other member countries and also the European Commission to take a more decisive stance on this issue.

According to Fico’s post on the social network Facebook, this informal meeting took place right at the beginning of the summit, with the participation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and leaders from Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia.

“It has come to our words that migration needs radical and strict solutions. It proved correct when we criticized and voted against mandatory migration quotas. I still maintain that it is necessary to unequivocally protect the Schengen external borders and focus on the countries of origin of migration,” the Prime Minister stated.
