The European Union is organizing aid for the Czech Republic and Poland in connection with the flood --[Reported by Umva mag]

After severe floods in Central and Eastern Europe, the EU mobilized aid through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism at the request of the Czech Republic and Poland, the European Commission said.

Slovenia, Belgium, Croatia, and Germany sent hundreds of devices to the Czech Republic necessary for drying buildings damaged by water and supporting repair efforts.

Meanwhile, Poland – according to the EC – requested water treatment devices, which were delivered by Sweden.

“Thank you to the member states for their quick response. This joint effort is a testament to the EU’s unwavering commitment to solidarity and cooperation in times of crisis,” said EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic.

Furthermore, the Copernicus emergency management service is providing satellite images to support rescue operations in the affected countries.

In October 2001, the European Commission established the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. In the event of an emergency, any country can request assistance. (20.09.2024)
