Apple has this week expanded its pool of testers for the software update which will bring artificial intelligence into the virtual assistant Siri.

Members of the Apple Beta Software Program have been invited to start testing the new AI-focused addition. This program includes a group of people who have signed up to help test pre-released versions in exchange for feedback.

A technology enthusiast who goes by Ana on X (formerly Twitter) took to social media to share that she had received a developer-focused email on September 18: “Just received the email from @/Apple – I hope so many dev will join the program.

“There is a real need to make the iPhone smarter. Siri is completely out of track and I’d even say expired in comparison of what we can experience elsewhere.”

Siri will receive an AI-powered update following Apple’s testing

The Siri changes will include an all-new design, better language understanding, and the ability to type to Siri whenever convenient.

IAt the end of May the company reported its plan to overhaul the virtual assistant Siri with AI technology.

“Equipped with awareness of your personal context, the ability to take action in and across apps, and product knowledge about your devices’ features and settings, Siri will be able to assist you like never before,” writes the iPhone maker on their Apple Intelligence page.

The first lot of AI integrations will be made available in U.S. English before the company expands the offering into localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. in December. Other languages and countries will be supported at some point next year.

While the first release comes with the latest iOS 18.1 upgrade, the full range of AI features won’t be available until another software update comes out. The date for this isn’t yet known.
