Brit tourist, 15, fighting for life after horror accident on slide at popular waterpark in Majorca --[Reported by Umva mag]

A BRITISH teenager is fighting for his life after nearly drowning at a Majorcan water park.

The 15-year-old teen boy was rushed to hospital on Monday afternoon after the horrific ordeal in Alcudia.

Civil Guard motorcyclists drove ahead of the ambulance to ensure he got to hospital as quickly as possible.

Spanish press say the horrific incident happened in the Hidropark water park in Alcudia.

Local newspaper Cronica Balear says the Brit was “knocked unconscious when he went down one of the slides and hit his head.”

They reported: “The boy, as a result of the crash, has been knocked unconscious, and once he has reached the pool, he has gone to the bottom of it.”

The outlet also said that when the ambulance arrived at the scene “the health workers began to revive the child” and that they “recovered his pulse” but the Brit remained unconscious.

After stabilising the 15-year-old, the ambulance began to transfer him to Son Espases hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the Brit’s condition, the Civil Guard put in a “green alert” where different patrols cut off traffic at the main intersections so the ambulance could get through freely.

Sources from the 061 emergency services claim the incident occurred at around 4pm when they received notice of a serious drowning in the water park.

An investigation is being held to determine what happened.

It comes weeks after a British man drowned while scuba diving off the coast of Lanzarote.

Emergency responders rushed to pull the tourist from the water at the popular Playa Chica beach but were unable to revive him.

The 59-year-old was holidaying in the Puerto del Carmen resort when he went into cardiac arrest on Thursday.

The alarm was raised just after 12.30pm at the popular beach, famed for its amazing snorkelling.

A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency response centre said overnight: “A 59-year-old scuba diver has died following an incident at Playa Chica in the municipality of Tias.

“We started receiving calls just after 12.30pm yesterday.

“The callers said a scuba diver who was unconscious and needed emergency medical assistance had been pulled from the water.

“Emergency responders discovered he was in cardiac arrest when they arrived at the scene and practiced CPR on him without obtaining positive results.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene. Local police and firefighters were also mobilised.”
