Several days of heavy rain are yet another reminder that summer is well and truly over for the UK. Indeed, many cruise ships are repositioning to sunnier climes, such as the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.
But there are still a few chances to grab a last minute cruise deal from a British port before they all disappear for the Winter. Here’s what we would choose were mobility no issue:
12-Day Canary Islands – Princess
A chance to grab a few days in the sun in the Canaries? On our favourite cruise line? Sounds ideal. Departing Southampton, Sky Princess will visit the Canary Islands and mainland Portugal. There’s also six sea days. Lovely.
As an added bonus, we would finally achieve Elite Captain’s Circle status if we were on this last minute cruise deal.
Departs: 16th November
Calling at: Santa Cruise, Tenerife (overnight) / Las Palmas, Gran Canaria / Lanzarote / Lisbon
Prices: From £1,113 per person
Festive Getaway – Ambassador
A 5 night mini cruise in the run up to Christmas. Ambience sails from London Tilbury to Rotterdam, Honfleur and Amsterdam. We’ve been to all three cities before and have no real intention of returning. But the Christmas markets should be good.
Departs: 15th December
Calling at: Rotterdam / Honfleur / Amsterdam
Prices: From £514 per person
Northern European City Escape – P&O
Another festive cruise, this one sees Iona sail from Southampton to the continent. Stops include Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge and Le Havre. Given that Hamburg and Bruges (near Zeebrugge) have world-famous Christmas markets, this cruise could be good way to spend 7 nights. Rotterdam docks may be an industrial wasteland, but they look spectacular when lit up after dark.
Departs: 7th December
Calling at: Hamburg / Rotterdam / Zeebrugge / Le Havre
Prices: From £613 per person
Northern Europe – MSC
Always wanted to try cruising but not sure it’s for you? This four night cruise with MSC may be just the thing – but you’ll need to act fast to claim this last minute cruise deal. Departing Southampton, MSC Preziosa sails to Portland and Cobh in Ireland before returning on the 16th October. Neither destination port is hugely exciting, but at least you’ll get a feel for a cruise ship is all about.
Departs: 12th October
Calling at: Portland / Cobh (for Cork)
Prices: From £199 per person / $385 USD
Secret Special very last minute cruise deal – (probably) Fred Olsen
Too late! The ship has already sailed.
How about a mystery sailing? A 26-night roundtrip from Southampton to Canada. You’ll have to be REALLY quick to grab this last minute cruise deal because the ship sails on 3rd October.
Now I’m not saying this cruise is on the Borealis with Fred Olsen cruises, but Borealis does depart on the 3rd of October and will be stopping in all the same ports on the same days as the ‘mystery’ ship. The difference is, booking the mystery trip includes the 13-night return journey for just £500 more per person.
Departs: 3rd October
Calling at: St. John’s, Newfoundland / Halifax / Gaspe / Pilot Station Escoumins / Montreal, Quebec / Quebec City – Overnight onboard / Port-Saguenay / Corner Brook / Cork (Cobh)
Prices: From £1999 per person
