Major airport ‘back to usual chaos’ as 500 travellers forced to queue outside for hours in months’ long security blunder --[Reported by Umva mag]

HOLIDAYMAKERS have been kicked to the curb once again as a queue of over 500 forms outside one infamously chaotic airport. Exasperated passengers have taken to X this morning to complain about waiting for hours without even reaching security. He posted: “BHX back to its usual chaos. “One hour queue to get to security. Approx 500 people queuing outside to get onto the new lifts to security.” Claire Morrison added: “Just made my flight to Edinburgh this morning despite arriving early at BHX. “Horrendous queues for security starting outside and looping all the way through the inside of the airport.” With hundreds of queue-loving Brits being pushed to their limits, more passengers took to social media to brand BHX the worst airport in the continent. Jerry Hoyle posted: “Is Birmingham Airport the worst airport in Europe? “Absolute chaos this morning – it’s embarrassing!” Throughout spring and early summer passengers were met with disastrously long queues and last minute changes to luggage regulations. At the end of July the hand liquid limits were restored to 100ml subjecting many to airport anarchy, with lots of holidaymakers held back from jetting off. On the day of the announcement it was estimated there were more than 1,000 queuing to get through security, leaving some waiting for hours. Disgruntled passenger Davey Asprey posted on X: “Queuing for 98 minutes already and still outside of the airport for security. “I’m British. We love a good queue, but this is ridiculous.” The extent of the disruption became so intolerable some even called it out as a health and safety disaster. BHX has told The Sun they apologise for the delays this morning but guarantee that most travellers had not been made to queue for more than 10 minutes. A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “Due to a combination of unforeseen factors including technical issues and a cancelled flight, for a short period this morning some passengers were queued outside the terminal. “The vast majority of our passengers have not waited for more than 10 minutes over the summer and we are sorry this was not the experience for some this morning. “The terminal is now clear and security is flowing efficiently. “Not the return to chaos some are reporting and passengers should arrive at the airport allowing time advised by airlines, and not earlier.”
