Mondher Zenaidi cleared to run for Tunisian presidency --[Reported by Umva mag]

The candidacy of Mondher Zenaïdi, a former minister under Ben Ali, who had been rejected by the independent
electoral authority, has just been accepted by the administrative court.

Other appeals will be examined in the coming days.

The Tunisian administrative court accepted, on Thursday, the appeal of Mondher Zenaidi concerning the cancellation of his candidacy for the presidential election of October 6, 2024, both on the form and on the
substance, which allows him to get back in the electoral race.

According to the Tunisian press, the appeal filed by Abir Moussia was accepted on the form and rejected for a substantive defect, while the appeal filed by Béchir Laouani was rejected for a procedural defect.

Candidate Abir Moussi, a 49-year-old lawyer and leader of the Free Destourian Party, has been in prison since October 3 for “incitement to arm citizens against each other” and “provocation and disorder” on Tunisian territory.

On Tuesday, the Tunisian Administrative Court accepted the appeal filed by presidential candidate Abdellatif Mekki, thereby rejecting the judgment of first instance and annulling the decision of the electoral authority concerning the plaintiff’s candidacy for the presidential election of October 6, 2024.

The council of the authority had unanimously validated, on August 10, three candidacy files for the
next presidential election.

These are the files of Zouhair Maghzaoui, Kais Saied and Ayachi Zammel.
