Morocco faces growing threat from cyber attacks in 2023 (report) --[Reported by Umva mag]

APA-Rabat (Morocco) Morocco detected and blocked over 52 million threats last year, according to the annual Cybersecurity Report 2023 by Trend Micro, a company specialised in this field.

This figure is part of a global context in which Trend Micro will block more than 161 billion threats in 2023, an annual increase of 10 percent.

In its annual Cybersecurity Report 2023, Trend Micro Incorporated, a major player in the field of digital security, highlighted its achievements in Morocco. The document notes that the company has effectively detected and blocked more than 52 million threats in the country.

“In the field of cybersecurity, a breach is not always a disaster in itself; rather, it is often our response that can turn it into a major challenge or crisis,” says Assad Arabi, managing director for Africa and emerging markets at Trend Micro, as quoted in a release copied to APA on Tuesday.

Highlighting the company’s proactive approach, he adds: “At Trend Micro, we understand this critical distinction. We help organisations stay one step ahead of cyber threats by deploying the latest solutions, including seamless AI integration.”

This impressive performance comes against a global backdrop where Trend Micro claims to have blocked more than 161 billion threats, a significant annual increase of 10 percent.

The report warns that attackers are using increasingly sophisticated techniques to target a smaller number of victims for greater financial gain.

In Morocco, Trend Micro’s efforts are concentrated on several fronts. The company says it has prevented more than 40 million email threats and blocked more than 1.6 million malicious attacks via URL compromise. In addition, it claims to have identified and stopped more than 3.7 million malware attacks, demonstrating its expertise in protecting national digital assets.

Trend Micro’s annual report also reveals a 349% year-on-year increase in email malware detection worldwide, while malicious URL and phishing detections have decreased by 27%.

Access to cloud applications represents the greatest risk, with Trend’s Attack Surface Risk Management (ASRM) recording almost 83 billion access attempts.
