Mrs. Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has revealed he’s created another sitcom for the BBC.

His divisive series Mrs Brown’s Boys first hit screens back in 2011 and follows the loud-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes Brown, whose favourite pastime is meddling in the lives of her six children.

Despite regularly drawing in millions of viewers and being a mainstay on the broadcaster for over a decade, it is also often blasted by audiences for containing ‘painful’ jokes.

Earlier this year the BBC’s comedy director also refused to be drawn on whether Mrs Brown’s Boy is ‘actually funny’.

However now Brendan, 69, has said he’s not been deterred and has now created another show starring a legendary British comedian.

The sitcom, titled Shedites, stars Tommy Cannon.

‘It’s using comedy to touch on men’s mental health,’ Brendan explained.

‘The BBC loved the pilot. Hopefully it will be out in the fall,’ he added when speaking to The Sun.

Since Mrs. Brown’s Boys hit screens, it’s been nominated for a string of awards, including best comedy at the National Television Awards in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2024.

It’s won the gong three times, including earlier this year.

Last year Brendan also spoke about the future of the comedy.

‘As long as the BBC keep asking, we’ll keep making episodes,’ he said.

‘It’s down to what the BBC want and what we can plan around.’

‘We are definitely making more specials. Whether we do another full series or not depends on dates,’ he added when speaking to the Daily Star last year.

Despite frequently being panned by critics he also clapped back at those who bashed his venture.

‘First of all, I’m well aware that comedy is very subjective,’ he told BBC Radio Sounds around the same time.

‘What some people like, other people just detest. So, I don’t take it too serious…I don’t care what the critics say.’

Mrs Brown’s Boys is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
