One of the best British comedies is ending after 8 years --[Reported by Umva mag]

A BBC comedy is set to come to an end after its upcoming fifth season.

First premiering in 2017, Man Like Mobeen was created by Guz Khan and Andy Milligan.

Set in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, the series stars Guz as Mobeen, a former drug dealer who now tries to live a good life as a Muslim while raising his younger sister Aqsa in the absence of their parents and spending time with his friends Nate and Eight.

However, it’s now been announced the show is ending.

Guz, who has also appeared in Taskmaster, Our Flag Means Death and The Gentlemen, confirmed the fifth and final series of the BBC Three comedy hit would air next year.

The comedian, actor and writer joked he’d only decided to write another season to stop fans bugging him after the last ended on the cliffhanger of Mobeen being attacked in prison.

‘I can’t even shop at Aldi without someone popping out from behind the bread aisle and asking me when there’s going to be more Man Like Mobeen,’ the 38-year-old said.

‘So, for you, and only for you, here’s one, final, very last, never to be done again season of Man Like Mobeen.

‘Please don’t make me make any more, I got loads of kids to raise and that.’

Fans of the show have previously labelled it ‘highly underrated’.

The synopsis for the six-part season has teased that Mobeen is now ‘back on the outside and reunited with the gang in Small Heath, before embarking on an epic adventure overseas, if he can get his hands on a plane ticket and a fake passport that is’.

The BBC’s director of comedy Jon Petrie said the show had been a ‘comedy juggernaut’ for the channel and that ‘saying goodbye is going to be tough for everyone’.

‘But as much as we don’t want to, we’ve got to be grown-ups and accept it’s the end. Guz Khan and Andy Milligan have crafted something truly special in these final scripts, and we’re going out with a bang… even if keeping a straight face will be a challenge,’ he said.

‘It’s the last series, but it’s bigger and funnier than ever.’

Last year Guz admitted the series very nearly didn’t return for a fourth season after a three-year hiatus.

‘I was very much done when we finished the last series,’ he told the Standard.

‘I was like, “This story has served its purpose”.’ Yet as time went by, friends and acquaintances experienced certain things that made him think there was more to say.’
