Sky News has been slammed after comments made over Liam Payne’s young son Bear.

One Direction singer Payne died yesterday aged 31 after he fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Fans and friends alike have paid tribute to the Strip That Down hitmaker, with many sharing their devastation that Bear, who Payne fathered with ex Cheryl, would now grow up without a dad.

Addressing the breaking news last night, a presenter on Sky News also referenced seven-year-old Bear, but comments she made were called ‘disgusting’.

She said: ‘I remember when Bear was born and we were laughing at the name because it’s quite funny.’

@LewisJ815 said: ‘Ah just @SkyNews being as scummy as you’d expect re: Liam Payne news.’

‘Jesus, this news just broke and she decided to randomly make fun of his kids name. That kid, stupid name or not just lost their dad ffs.’ @GJ69 said.

‘Whattttttt. That is so uncalled for,’ @lightupvm added.

@gangster_ram also called the comments ‘so disrespectful’.

Payne and X Factor judge Cheryl, 41, welcomed Bear in March 2017, a year after they started dating.

The former couple parted ways one year later, and have both spoken about co-parenting in recent years.

In 2022, Payne opened up about how often he sees his son, saying it was two to three times a week.

He heartbreakingly spoke about Bear ‘needing his dad in his life’ and how his son looked at him ‘like a superhero’.

‘And I make sure when I see him, he has 100 percent of my time. I make sure that I’m not on my phone or dicking around somewhere else,’ he said, according to People.

Payne added: ‘So, I like to give him those moments and it’s important, he needs that in his life, he needs his dad in his life, and I’m happy he looks at me like a superhero, and I’m hoping to keep it that way.’

Earlier this year, Payne also said his son was his ‘mini-me’, telling his followers: ‘I’m going to speak to my son in a little bit which I’m really excited about. Bless him. He’s getting so big now. He’s a big boy and he looks like a mini-me.’
