Not only are there only three games on the list, compared to before the Game Pass price increase when there could be up to 10 games added, but they are all exclusive to PC and Ultimate members. Many believe that Xbox has been less favourable to the newest tier in an effort to push Console tier subscribers into the higher Ultimate tier. The US Federal Trade Commission called Xbox Game Pass Standard a “degraded product”, noting that Console players “must” switch to Ultimate for the same deal. It writes: “Additionally, Microsoft is discontinuing its $10.99/month ‘Console Game Pass’ product. “Users of that product must pay 81% more to switch to ‘Game Pass Ultimate’. “Product degradation – removing the most valuable games from Microsoft’s new service – combined with price increases for existing users, is exactly the sort of consumer harm from the merger the FTC has alleged.” Despite Xbox squeezing every penny it can out of Game Pass subscribers, it is still looking at other ways to bump up profits. This year alone 2.5k employees have lost their jobs at Xbox, including the closure of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks. In the midst of this doom and gloom, there is a small offering for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers this month but only if they own a high-end gaming PC. Xbox just revealed the list of games coming to Game Pass in the second half of September 2024.
