I’m a busy busy person, in the sense that I like to be busy in peoples business. “So when I didn’t know about this, I was like wow I’m not busy enough because I did not know that this was coming towards me. “Usually I can tell when someone is lying to me, I can absolutely read people but I couldn’t read Darren, I couldn’t read my best friend who was apart of it. I couldn’t read anything. “I’m shocked at myself because I’m usually very good at this. But I failed. I’m glad I failed because it was the best surprise ever.” Alexandra, who started dating Darren in April 2021 and now share two children together, said she instantly knew he was The One when they first met and is now ready to “take their relationship to the next stage”. But the pop star said she spent months dropping proposal hints, hoping Darren would get the message. The father-of-two was already busy putting the final touches in place for the top secret proposal when Alexandra appeared on Loose Women in July. She laughed: “I was dropping hints for months. I can’t get any bigger than hinting, than actually telling Darren on Loose Women. I said it ‘hint hint I want to be married to you’, live on national TV. Darren took that really well, because the plan was already in the mix and obviously I didn’t know. “But I said it because I thought it might give him a bit of a push in the right direction. I didn’t because the plan was already in motion, but I dropped several hints and I’m not afraid to say that.” Alexandra said the emotional moment was very special to her and she “remembers every single word” he said when he got down on one knee. “It was so personal and at the same time it was a whirlwind,” the songstress gushed. Alexandra said she has no plans on having an over the top WAG-style wedding, but will be celebrating the special day with her close friends and family. The Bad Boys songstress said: “I haven’t thought about having a wedding in the UK or abroad. “I’m in this gorgeous engagement bubble with the kids and with Darren and we are enjoying life at the moment as a four.” If I had to pick someone to perform for us, if I had my way personally because this person was a friend of my mum’s, I’d have Stevie Wonder.” Alexandra Burke Alexandra won the 2008 series of The X Factor and went onto have the best-selling X Factor winner’s single Hallelujah, which went to Number 1. Alexandra won the 2008 series of The X Factor and went onto have the best-selling X Factor winner’s single Hallelujah, which went to Number 1.

She had a further two chart toppers Bad Boys and Start Without You.

Despite her huge music success, Alexandra has confirmed that she WON’T be singing at her wedding for one big reason.

Instead, the West End star said she would like US music legend and Superstition hitmaker Stevie Wonder, 74, to perform as it holds a special place in her and her late mum Melissa Bell’s heart.

The X Factor star lost her mum Melissa Bell in 2017 while she was touring the UK with stage show Sister Act.

But Alexandra is keeping tight-lipped on which celebrities will be at her wedding – but said she is hoping a few famous faces will join her in celebrating her big day and will take to the mic to perform.

“I can’t say who we want, I can’t say those people as I’m trying to work on something,” she teased.

“I just had a discussion about it, I can’t tell but we’ll see.”

Alexandra said she’s going to be enjoying the wedding process and and be as organised as possible to avoid becoming “Bridezilla”.

“Knowing me, I’m going to try and be as organised as possible given the fact that I’ve got two children but I feel like any woman would want it to be the way they’d like it but not be called a Bridezilla.

We’re in the engagement bubble but I don’t really know what that would be.”

Motherhood

Alexandra, who welcomed her first child with Darren in June 2022 and gave birth to their second in September 2023 keeps her family life private and has not disclosed the names or gender of their children.

But the actress has lifted the lid on motherhood and said she has not ruled out having a third child in the future – saying she would love a big family.

Alexandra, who won Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2021, along with Love Island star Wes Nelson, and athlete Aled Davies.

She was the only female left in the competition.

Alexandra described taking part in the show as “the best decision” she has ever made – even going as far as passing the course.

Describing how motherhood compared to the gruelling challenges of SAS, Alexandra said: “SAS was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, with broken ribs and broken ankles. I was a broken person at the time.

“I loved every minute of it, I would do SAS again in a heartbeat. I don’t care of the injuries, I literally would do it again because it was so incredible.

“It was literally mind over matter and the things I achieved on the show, not in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever do. I didn’t even think I would win it, and the fact that I was the only girl to pass the course was beyond me.

“I wanted to do that show before having kids, so I put it out into the universe, tried my best to manifest but I definitely wanted to do it way before wanting children because I knew when I had kids I wouldn’t want to do it.”

She went on: “I love being a mum, I’m not going to sit here and say that it comes so natural to me.

“You’ve got to go with your child’s energy and your child’s vibe and no two children are the same.

“All you’ve got to do is embrace each day and take yourself too seriously. Embrace the chaos.

“There’s ups and downs that come with being a parent and challenges of course but it’s the biggest reward you’re ever going to get back. What you put into these kids, is what you’re going to get back.

“My mum put so much into me in order for me to achieve what I want to in life and sacrifice so much, so I’m going to sacrifice so much for these kids, I’m going to make sure I give them absolutely everything in reason of course, not spoil them because I believe you can only give what you can give and make sure they can make their own beds, wash away their tea.”

Alexandra recalled a time when she left her empty cup on her mum’s dining table and had to turn back while half way home to wash away her dish.

The Hallelujah singer is trying to instil those values in her own kids – and has also partnered with Haliborange to help encourage children to dream big, and get creative and curious at the Haliborange Theatre of Dreams this October Half-Term.

Research shows that 95 per cent of parents wish for their child’s creativity and aspiration of dreaming big remains present as they get older and grow into adults.

Alexandra told us: ” Haliborange, creating healthy lifestyle choices from a young age, that is what they stand for.

“About making your mind and body strong, it’s important to instil that within a child when they are young and hopefully that is what I’m doing.”

Speaking about her own dreams as a child: “Being an advocate for children to create healthy lifestyle choices and Disney who is telling us to dream big and to never give up, it reminded me of my childhood and how I was raised and how my mum gave us so my belief when we were younger.

“My biggest dream was to be like my mum, to be a mum and be a signer. So for me my biggest dreams have come to life and there is so much more I want to achieve.”
