Frelimo and Daniel Chapo lead in Mozambique’s general elections --[Reported by Umva mag]

Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party and its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, are leading in partial results of last week’s general elections.

The results, announced by the district elections commissions (CDEs) at the weekend, reveal a strong performance for Frelimo across various regions, reinforcing its dominance in the political landscape.

Frelimo won in all seven municipal districts of the capital Maputo, a traditional opposition stronghold.

The largest victory was in KaNyaka district where both Frelimo and Chapo garnered more than 79 percent of the vote.

Independent presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane had a commendable showing in the capital, garnering 38.8 and 32.2 percent in KaMavota and Katembe districts of the capital, respectively.

The partial results showed that the party also cruised to victory in some districts in Gaza and Cabo Delgado provinces.

The results are provisional and await confirmation from the National Elections Commission and validation by the Constitutional Council.

Final results would only be known by the end of October.
