As viewers will recall, the last instalment of the series, the 2019 Christmas Special, ended on a major cliffhanger with Nessa proposing to Smithy, but it did not reveal his answer. Are the pair finally tying the knot? In recent weeks, a number of stars from the Gavin and Stacey cast have been spotted filming scenes for the upcoming Christmas Special, including Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Ruth and James.  They have been spied in multiple locations in Barry, Wales, where the series is set.  Most recently, fans have noticed some of the female cast members filming a special scene – Nessa’s hen do, according to the Mirror.  Ruth, who plays Nessa, gathered alongside her on-screen bestie Joanna, Julia Davis, Alison Steadman and Melanie Waters to film the scene.  They were spotted outside a restaurant and reportedly seen getting glammed up to film a part scene. The bride-to-be wore a back mesh top, one of Nessa’s signature belts and a red leather jacket, while Stacey opted for a more colourful look with a floral dress and denim jacket.  Alison also opted for a light floral ensemble, while Julia wore a leopard print dress and black cardi, and Melanie wore one classic brown jacket.  However, filming for the scene was quickly thrown into chaos as the heavens opened and started a major downpour.  As the filming crew all donned black rain jackets, the actresses were forced to seek shelter and wait for the rain to let up before they could resume filming. However, they eventually got it finished off as Ruth and James confirmed they had finished filming the BBC Special last week. It took about six weeks to shoot.  When filming ended, Ruth and James addressed the cast, crew, and fans who came out to support them with a message of thanks.  She also expressed hope that they “won’t be disappointed” when the special airs in three months. She told the crowd: “Thank you so much for standing here today and being so patient. You haven’t seen anything because we’ve been indoors, which shows that you are truly committed fans of the show and we hope that you won’t be disappointed on Christmas Day when all will be revealed. “This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won’t be seeing us here anymore, but we’ve had a wonderful 17 years. It’s been fantastic.” “Thank you very much for everything everybody. We’ll see you soon,” James added. PAGavin and Stacey will return on Christmas Day[/caption]
