Major change to Tesco meal deal as they collab with popular chain restaurant --[Reported by Umva mag]

The meal deal is a hallmark of British lunchtime culture – and there are hundreds of possible combinations you might choose from supermarkets like Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.

It might’ve been Boots (notably not a supermarket) that pioneered the meal deal in the 1980s, forever changing the lunch breaks of countless Britons, but now, Tesco has made a major change to its meal in collaborating with a popular chain restaurant.

Any guesses? It’s Asian-inspired brand Itsu, known for its sushi, noodle bowls, dumplings and more across its 76 restaurants in England.

What is the Tesco meal deal change?

From October 21, meal deal fanatics will be able to select the Itsu dragon roll sushi range as part of the £5 Tesco meal deal offer – a boujier upgrade on the £4 meal deal offer, which costs £3.60 for Clubcard holders.

Each sushi packet will be accompanied by a mayo sachet, sweet soy sauce and a mini pot complete with crunchy tempura pieces.

However, Tesco isn’t the first supermarket to collaborate with Itsu, as Sainsbury’s has long stocked a range of Itsu products as part of its wider range, including the chicken and spring onion gyoza, the chicken big bao, and the chicken ramen.

Elsewhere, Itsu has expanded its supermarket range to include five new products, which are immediately available across Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda, and will be stocked in Tesco from November 4.

The new picks include two extra varieties of frozen dumplings – the chicken soup and vegetable steamed flavours – which will cost £3 for six 28g pieces. They can be microwaved in the packaging or steamed in the frying pan for extra softness.

Elsewhere, three vegetarian snacks have also made their debut, including the vegetable tempura fries, glazed miso aubergine and pumpkin crispy fritters, all costing £3.25 each.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s has launched a new £5 meal deal to spice up the supermarket combination.

Launching last week, the deal includes a choice between either a Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken, which is accompanied by Medium Fries, a medium soft drink, and a side of four Chicken McNuggets. How’s that for value?

The deal saves almost £2.50 compared to the cost of buying each item individually, and customers are also able to nab the four nuggets which aren’t usually available to buy separately in this quantity.

But if you want to claim this absolute steal, you’ll need to head into the store to claim it as it’s not available on delivery.
