One shopper recently posted on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group flagging the money-saving hack. Sharing an image of Fairy Platinum All in One dishwasher tablets, they said: “Don’t know if this is common knowledge but when you are doing online shopping for Tesco you can type in the word SAMPLE and various available samples come up for you to choose for free.” The post has notched up over 300 likes and more than 270 comments from shoppers who didn’t know about the hack. We have asked Tesco for the full list of brands offering sample products and will update this story when we have heard back. However, shoppers have previously spotted brands such as Fairy, Coca-Cola and Foster’s all offering products for nothing. Tik Tokkers revealed how they found cans of 150ml Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Lemon which usually cost 65p, Fairy Platinum 3 Dishwasher Tablets which normally cost from £5 and Foster’s Proper Shandy Lager Beer, 440ml, which normally set you back £3.75 for a pack of four all for nothing. Bear in mind, there are some rules behind getting the products for 0p. The freebies are only available online and you will need to be a Clubcard member. You can sign up for a Clubcard for free in-store or online. Standard delivery and click and collect charges also apply and you can’t get the items if you are ordering via Whoosh, which lets you order and have your shopping delivered up to 60 minutes later. The post on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page shows you would have to spend £50 to get the Fairy dishwasher tablets too. We have asked Tesco if the £50 minimum charge fee applies to all sample products and will update this story when we have heard back. Also bear in mind, dozens of shoppers online have said the sample trick doesn’t work for them so it can be a bit hit and miss. How else to get freebies at supermarkets If you’ve got a Tesco Clubcard you can randomly pick up Clubcard Coupons offering you products for free. It has seen shoppers bag free Fairy conditioner instead of £4.80 and free Febreze bathroom liquid diffusers. Meanwhile, Lidl shoppers can bag free food by signing up to its Lidl Plus app. The app is free to download on to any smartphone and offers you the freebies when spending a certain amount each week. Shoppers can also pick up free food from supermarkets by signing up to the Olio app, which works by redistributing food that is due to be thrown out by businesses. Meanwhile, some energy firms and phone providers offer you free food and drinks if you’re a customer. For example, Octopus Energy gives customers signed up to its Octoplus loyalty scheme free Greggs hot drinks each week. And O2 Priority customers can get free sausage rolls from the bakery chain as well as beer from Byron Burger. How does the Tesco Clubcard work? You earn points as you shop, which can then be turned into vouchers for money off food or with Reward partners. You earn one point for each £1 spent, and each point is then worth 1p. So 150 points gets you £1.50, and you would have to spend £150 to get 150 points. You need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher. Any vouchers are worth their face value when used in-store at Tesco. But you can double their worth by spending them at one of the supermarket chain’s partners. Any Clubcard points turned into vouchers expire after two years. Any vouchers transferred into Reward Partner codes expire after six months. Loyalty card holders also get access to over 8,000 items for less through Clubcard Prices. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? Get in touch by emailing money-sm@news.co.uk.
