YORK REGION UNDER SIEGE: BREAK-IN RING CRUSHED!

A chilling wave of overnight burglaries has finally begun to unravel with a fourth suspect now facing charges. For months, homes across York Region were systematically targeted, leaving residents feeling violated and vulnerable.

The investigation, dubbed Project Lone Wolf, began in October of last year after police noticed a disturbing pattern. These weren’t random acts; they were coordinated, sophisticated break-ins executed under the cover of darkness.

Suspects weren’t simply forcing doors. They were disabling security systems by cutting wires and employing radio frequency jammers – a clear indication of meticulous planning and a desire to avoid detection. Their targets were always valuables: jewelry, handbags, and readily transportable cash.

Sean Mackey, 47.

The first major breakthrough came with the arrest of Sean Mackey, 48, of Toronto, in November. He now faces a staggering 37 charges linked to 28 separate residential break-ins spanning from January 2024 to October 2025.

Police believe Mackey’s arrest is just the beginning, and are actively seeking to identify additional victims. A significant amount of stolen property has been recovered, and images have been compiled in a digital folder for review.

Victims who experienced break-ins between April and November 2025, specifically those involving smashed rear-door glass, are urged to examine the recovered items. A careful verification process will be in place to confirm ownership.

This investigation wasn’t a solo effort. Detectives from York, Durham, Halton, and the Ontario Provincial Police collaborated, sharing resources and expertise to build a comprehensive case.

Three other individuals have already been charged in connection with the investigation. Lucien Viau, 52, of Oshawa, Robert Mills, 67, also of Oshawa, and Shane Charles, 48, of Whitby, all face charges related to break-and-enter and conspiracy.

However, two suspects remain at large: Patricia Mackey-Moreira, 22, of Toronto, and an 18-year-old man. Mackey-Moreira is wanted for possession of property exceeding $5,000, while the younger suspect faces two similar charges.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the remaining suspects. Anyone with knowledge of these crimes is encouraged to come forward.

The precision and calculated nature of these burglaries suggest a well-organized criminal network. The recovery of stolen goods offers a glimmer of hope for those affected, but the search for justice continues.
