A night of reckless abandon ended in shattered metal and broken bodies in Scarborough early Friday morning. A stolen vehicle careened off the road, slamming into a cemetery fence and leaving five teenagers hospitalized with injuries.
Police responded to the scene near Kingston and Brimley Roads just after midnight, finding a vehicle overturned on its side. The initial assessment quickly revealed a disturbing truth: the car wasn't just involved in an accident, it had been stolen.
Three young men were immediately taken into custody at the crash site. Two young women were apprehended later, while receiving medical treatment for their injuries at a local hospital.
The impact left one of the female passengers with serious injuries, requiring immediate and extensive medical attention. The others sustained various injuries, the extent of which hasn’t been fully disclosed.
Charges have been laid against all five individuals. Two males face charges related to possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000. The two females share that charge, along with an additional charge of failing to comply with previous court undertakings.
The driver, a young man, bears the most serious accusations: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, possession of stolen property, and driving without a valid license. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities remain protected.
Investigators are meticulously piecing together the events leading up to the crash, seeking any witnesses who may have observed the vehicle or the events unfolding. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
