A man identified as Jerson Lopez-Sanchez, a citizen of Honduras, is currently evading authorities after being indicted on charges of assaulting federal agents in Texas. The 28-year-old faces serious consequences if apprehended, with the potential for decades behind bars.
The incident unfolded on December 1st, when immigration agents attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle registered to Lopez-Sanchez. The vehicle reportedly contained at least five individuals, and the situation quickly escalated into a dangerous confrontation.
According to the indictment, Lopez-Sanchez intentionally reversed his Chevrolet Silverado, striking and injuring an agent who was positioned behind the truck. The vehicle was heavily laden with equipment, including ladders, suggesting a planned operation.
Rather than comply with the attempted stop, Lopez-Sanchez allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon, maneuvering around other law enforcement vehicles in a desperate attempt to escape. Agents were clearly identifiable, wearing marked vests and displaying federal badges.
The pursuit intensified as Lopez-Sanchez sped away, disregarding flashing lights and crossing into opposing lanes of traffic. He then rammed his Silverado into an ICE agent’s van, causing substantial damage and deploying airbags.
Despite continued pursuit by a third law enforcement vehicle, Lopez-Sanchez continued to flee for approximately ten minutes before abandoning the truck in a median. He and the other occupants then scattered on foot, disappearing into the surrounding area.
The indictment explicitly states that Lopez-Sanchez wielded his vehicle as a “deadly and dangerous weapon,” capable of causing severe harm or even death. The reckless actions demonstrated a clear disregard for the safety of the agents involved.
Lopez-Sanchez remains at large, and authorities are actively seeking information that could lead to his arrest. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to come forward.
If convicted on all counts, Lopez-Sanchez could face up to 20 years in federal prison for each individual charge, a stark reminder of the severity of his alleged actions.
