Martin Lewis’ wife reveals BBC series has been cancelled after 15 years --[Reported by Umva mag]

Martin Lewis has declared he’s a ‘proud husband’ despite his wife’s long-running TV show being cancelled by the BBC.

Over the past 13 years, presenter Lara Lewington has fronted the technology focused programme Click.

The series, which premiered in 2000, airs weekly and covers technology news and recent developments in the world of technology and the Internet.

Lara, 45, joined the series in 2011 as a reporter before becoming a presenter seven years later.

She co-presents the show with Spencer Kelly, however it’s now been revealed the show has been axed by the national broadcaster.

 Sharing the news on X, Lara wrote: ‘Here’s to the future… some PERSONAL NEWS:

‘After 15 years of covering some of the greatest technology on earth, sadly in a few months BBC Click will gaze into the future no more.

‘I’ve many exciting plans, documentaries to finish, being AI agony aunt on Lorraine and a compelling future health tech related project coming next year.’

She went on: ‘The BBC gave us an amazing opportunity to cover the tech that has, and will transform our lives, in ways we could never have imagined. It is a shame to see our dear show come to an end at this moment of AI transformation and incredible acceleration in innovation and possibility, but such are the economic constraints.

‘Over the years I have worked with some of the most brilliant, talented, creative and quirky characters that I am happy to call the Click family. My co-host @spenley has been the cleverest and most generous colleague I could have dreamt of. As always for any tech journalist, I’m excited about what comes next…’

Re-sharing the post, presenter and money saving expert Martin wrote: ‘Very proud husband here. And in no doubt, one door closing will see many more open.’

Posting his own statement to social media, Spencer said the decision was a result of ‘cuts and changes’.

He wrote that while the BBC would still cover technology news ‘sadly some of the longest serving Click members have been asked not to be a part of that future’.

However, he added: ‘We’ve had some great times though! I’m so proud of what Click has achieved on such a tiny budget. You wouldn’t believe how little money this programme has always been made on and how good we’ve made it look – that’s because of the innovation and creativity of the team behind it.’

The presenter then thanked viewers for watching over the years.

Upon hearing the news, many viewers made it clear they weren’t happy with the decision.

‘Really enjoyed watching Click over the years. Always learnt something from it. The BBC needs to think carefully about the type of programmes it is currently axing,’ Christine posted on X.

‘You two are the best tech presenters around. BBC Click has been a joyous part of my life. I hate that this is happening but wish you both every success for what’s to come,’ Gregg shared.

‘Watched Click for many years and always thought it should’ve been given a slot outside of BBC News for greater coverage. Thanks for the good times!’ Steve added.

In a statement to Metro, a BBC spokesperson said: ‘Our flagship Tech show, Click, will be relaunched and renamed Tech Now, shifting from its traditional TV format to one where the films work best for digital.’

After spending six years at Channel 5 as a weather presenter and showbiz correspondent, Lara featured in a weekly sketch on ITV1’s The Impressionable Jon Culshaw.

She’s also been a panellist on ITV1’s Win, Lose or Draw and has made appearances on Newsnight, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, The Weakest Link and BBC’s Let’s Dance for Sports Relief.

Lara and Martin have been married since 2009 and share one daughter, who was born five years later.
