OASIS SECRETS REVEALED: The Decaying Shrine That Launched a Legend!

A haunting stillness has fallen over the Oasis Leisure Centre, a once vibrant hub of family fun now succumbing to decay. Recent photographs reveal a heartbreaking decline, showcasing years of neglect and raising urgent questions about its future.

The images, captured by Jamierob2, depict a building slowly being reclaimed by nature. Murky water stagnates in the pools, walls are consumed by mold, and a general air of dismal abandonment permeates the entire complex.

This isn't just the loss of a leisure facility; it's the fading of a cultural landmark. Remarkably, the iconic band Oasis chose their name while gazing at the centre’s swimming pool, forever linking the building to a moment of musical history.

A dedicated group, ‘Save Oasis Swindon,’ is fiercely campaigning for action, demanding answers from both the building’s owner and the local council. They question why a Grade II listed building is being allowed to deteriorate so rapidly.

The core of the issue appears to be a financial impasse. Seven Capital, the owner, is required to contribute significant funds – £18,000 for bus service improvements, and a further £35,000 for cycle route enhancements and landscaping – before the centre can even reopen.

While permission has been granted for partial demolition and new construction, plans to build 700 flats on the site were rejected by the Swindon Borough Council’s planning committee. This leaves the future of the Oasis hanging in the balance.

Seven Capital maintains they are committed to revitalizing the Oasis, claiming to have revised their plans following public consultation. They express a desire to restore the centre for the benefit of the community.

Councillor Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, echoes this sentiment, stating that reopening the Oasis pool and slides is an “absolute priority.” He expresses hope for positive progress in the coming months, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with Seven Capital.

Despite assurances, the stark reality captured in the recent photographs paints a grim picture. The Oasis stands as a poignant reminder of lost joy and a community’s desperate plea for its beloved landmark to be saved from complete ruin.
