The committee, led by Chairman James Comer, compelled the Clintons to testify after considering a contempt of Congress motion.
A key focus of the questioning revolved around a previously unseen photograph depicting Bill Clinton relaxing in a hot tub with a woman whose identity remains obscured. The face in the image was redacted, raising concerns about her potential status as a victim of Epstein’s trafficking ring, or even a minor.
Clinton offered an explanation for his presence at the location, stating he was a guest of the Sultan of Brunei. He described being invited to stay at the Sultan’s hotel and encouraged to use the pool during a visit related to the Asia-Pacific leaders conference, an initiative Clinton launched during his presidency.
Pressed directly about the nature of his interaction with the woman in the hot tub, Clinton unequivocally denied any sexual relations. He further stated his recollection was that the Secret Service was present at the pool and he did not believe the woman was underage.
The deposition took a more perplexing turn when Clinton was asked about the presence of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate, also at the pool. He admitted he had no explanation for her being there, leaving a significant unanswered question hanging over the circumstances.
