The search for a second suspect in the brazen daylight murder of a young rapper outside a bustling Toronto shopping mall has ended. Bryan Emmanuel Fuentes Gramajo, 23, was apprehended in Montreal, bringing investigators one step closer to justice for the victim, Kashif Jamal Bentley-Jean.
The fatal shooting unfolded on July 17th, shortly after 6 a.m., in the parking lot of Yorkdale Shopping Centre. Police responded to frantic calls reporting a man with a gun, arriving to find Bentley-Jean already suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the 28-year-old, known on the music scene as Lil Bentley, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The perpetrators vanished before officers could secure the area, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a community in shock.
Gramajo’s capture marks a significant development in the investigation, as he was prominently featured as the number one most wanted individual by the BOLO Program. He is now facing a first-degree murder charge and is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Tuesday.
Investigators have uncovered a complex web of connections surrounding the victim, revealing Bentley-Jean’s alleged ties to gangs operating in both Montreal and Toronto. Reports suggest he may have even founded a street gang with influence in both cities.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Police had initially identified three suspects, issuing Canada-wide warrants for their arrest. Bradley Lucate Nicolas was arrested in Laval in August, but a third suspect, Jimmy Prudent, 28, remains at large and is still being sought by authorities.
The investigation continues, and authorities urge anyone with information regarding Jimmy Prudent’s whereabouts, or any details related to the shooting, to come forward. The pursuit of justice for Kashif Jamal Bentley-Jean remains a top priority.
