The World Cup watch party in New York got an unexpected surprise when Will Ferrell made an appearance, dressed as his character from the Netflix show 'The Hawk.'
The actor donned a visor with the word 'Hawk' across the front, which is reminiscent of his pro golfer Lonnie Hawkins character in the show.
Ferrell regaled the pub crowd with his rendition of 'Sweet Caroline,' and soon the entire group was belting out the catchy tune.
The actor's appearance was likely a promotional stunt for the upcoming show, and he played along by chanting 'Hawk, hawk, hawk' to get the crowd involved.
The show's official synopsis describes Ferrell's character as a once-upon-a-time number one golf player who's struggling to recapture his magic.
According to the synopsis, Hawkins' body is telling him to retire, but his heart says he's not done yet. His ex-wife and son Lance, golf's new golden boy, know he's through.
However, with one more major to win to complete golf's Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he's anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.
In addition to promoting his show, Ferrell is also serving as a Los Angeles ambassador for the World Cup, a gig he's jokingly referred to as 'awful.'
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show, Ferrell quipped that he's tasked with mowing the field, washing the uniforms, and even washing the jockstraps of the New Zealand team – which he described as being 'very hairy.'
