Presidential Candidate Rejects Elon Musk Lawsuit Threat, Vows Not to Be Silenced

Rep. Ro Khanna dismissed threats of legal action from Elon Musk, describing them as intimidation tactics that would not silence him. He emphasized that attempts to sue a member of Congress for performing official duties would not succeed.

Khanna made the remarks outside the Capitol after a public exchange with Musk over U.S. foreign‑aid cuts. The two have traded accusations on social media and in interviews.

The dispute centers on Musk’s advocacy for reductions in USAID funding during the early second Trump administration. Khanna argues that the cuts directly contributed to child deaths worldwide. He contends that accountability for those policy decisions is essential.

Khanna cited a medical study indicating that millions of children could have been affected by the aid reductions. He linked the policy changes to a rise in mortality among vulnerable populations.

Musk responded on his social platform, labeling Khanna a liar and suggesting legal action. He called the congressman a “robber” and warned of a potential lawsuit.

Musk has long criticized USAID for spending he deems wasteful, arguing that many projects lack justification. Critics of the cuts counter that the reductions failed to differentiate between unnecessary expenses and life‑saving humanitarian programs. The debate highlights divergent views on the role of government aid abroad.

By March of the previous year, USAID had reduced roughly 83 percent of its programs, according to the State Department. The scale of the cuts has become a focal point of political scrutiny.

The legal basis for any lawsuit remains unclear, and Khanna expressed confidence that the case would not prevail. He referenced an AI chatbot’s assessment that Musk lacks a viable claim. Khanna said he would not be deterred by potential litigation.
