Constable Marc Pinizzotto, a 43‑year‑old member of the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force, was killed during a police operation on June 11.
He was shot while executing search warrants in a North York high‑rise; one of the warrants was connected to a March shooting at the U.S. Consulate.
The fatal bullet struck an area of his body not covered by his vest, a circumstance described as a fluke, and he later died in hospital.
Pinizzotto had served the Toronto Police Service for 18 years, was married to Andrea, and was the father of 14‑year‑old twins Daniella and Domenic.
Approximately 10,000 law‑enforcement officers from Canada and the United States gathered at the Toronto Congress Centre to honor his life.
Provincial and municipal leaders attended, including the province’s premier, the U.S. ambassador, the lieutenant governor, and the mayor of Toronto.
Sgt. Ken Lefort, leader of the Emergency Task Force unit, delivered a eulogy emphasizing Pinizzotto’s professionalism, courage and the positive impact he had on his teammates.
Police chief Myron Demkiw praised Pinizzotto as a symbol of courage and excellence, noting that the ETF continued to serve in the hours following his death.
His mother, Linda, urged the community to draw positive lessons from his loss, describing him as kind, loyal and deeply committed to serving his community.
The ceremony combined celebration of his dedication with a resolve to confront the violence that claimed his life.
