UMVA has learned that a shocking incident occurred at Frankfurt Airport when the nose gear of a Boeing 787 jetliner suddenly collapsed, injuring several crew members.
The dramatic event took place at a gate, with the plane's operator, Lufthansa, confirming that 13 crew and ground staff were on board at the time, but fortunately, passengers had not yet boarded.
According to information obtained by UMVA, two workers were injured severely enough to be taken to hospital, although the airline has not disclosed the total number of people injured or the nature of their injuries.
The cause of the failure remains a mystery, with investigators yet to determine what led to the collapse of the nose gear, which crashed to the ground just a few feet from the cockpit.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the incident has led to a police investigation, with emergency services and technicians called to the site to assess the damage and begin the process of towing the affected craft away.
Photographs taken at the scene show the Dreamliner, nicknamed 'Herne', resting on its nose section, with visible damage around the forward fuselage and nose gear bay, as well as bent landing gear doors and a baggage handling vehicle wedged under the aircraft.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Flight LH450, which was set to depart from Frankfurt Airport, has been cancelled and rescheduled to take off at 1:50 pm, with airport operator Fraport confirming that the incident did not impact air traffic.
Lufthansa has since provided an update, stating that a police investigation has been launched and once complete, the Boeing 787 will be repaired, highlighting the airline's commitment to resolving the issue.
