The investigation into a murder plot in Stafford County, Virginia, took an unexpected turn when authorities discovered a damaged street sign and stolen food from a local restaurant. A vehicle veered off the road and struck a road sign, prompting a report of reckless driving on June 16.
Deputies responded to the scene and detained two suspects: Louis Conely and a 17-year-old minor. Both were found with unopened alcoholic beverages and a tray of food stolen from a Buffalo Wild Wings visible on the vehicle's dashboard. The pair allegedly admitted to stealing the food tray from the restaurant.
During the search of the vehicle, authorities found opened alcoholic beverages, multiple knives, medical items, and a notebook detailing a murder plot. Conely, 19, owned the notebook. The investigation revealed that the pair had developed two detailed murder plots against the underage suspect's family.
The evidence showed that the pair sent text messages in April planning the murders of the 17-year-old's parents inside their home. They allegedly discussed how to avoid security cameras and debated whether to shoot the parents or slit their throats. A search of the underage teen's bedroom uncovered multiple BB guns, edged weapons, and archery equipment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the murder plot. Conely faces multiple charges, including two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of felony written threats, petit larceny, and others. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
The younger teen is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of felony written threats. They are being held at the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center. It is unclear how Conely and the teen knew each other.
