The Democratic primary for New York's 10th Congressional District has been won by former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who secured the nomination in a landslide victory over two-term incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman.
Lander, a far-left Democrat, secured the nomination in the heavily blue district covering parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. His priorities in Congress will be centered on opposing President Donald Trump and dismantling immigration enforcement.
Speaking to supporters and the media at a Brooklyn victory event, Lander outlined his aggressive plans, declaring, "Solidarity is the force that we need to vanquish Trump's fascism, to abolish ICE, and to stand up to the billionaires who are rigging our economy against us!"
Lander also vowed to resume direct action against ICE immediately, telling the crowd he would return to 26 Federal Plaza the following morning to continue protesting immigration enforcement operations there. He has a history of aggressive activism at the site, including prior arrests during protests.
The candidate credited grassroots organizers and volunteers for the win, saying, "It was my name on the ballot today, but tonight's victory belongs to all of you." He described the campaign as a "team sport" against "billionaires and bullies" and praised New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The Democratic National Committee released a statement congratulating Lander, praising his commitment to working people and his track record of putting people first. DNC Chair Ken Martin added that Lander will continue his work in Congress to lower costs, raise wages, invest in housing, expand access to healthcare, and hold the Trump administration accountable.
