Senate Majority Leader John Thune responded sharply to President Trump's criticism on Thursday, after the President expressed frustration over the SAVE America Act.
Trump reportedly told reporters that the Democrats "can't believe how lucky they got" with Thune as Senate Majority Leader, amid an ongoing feud between Thune and the White House over the SAVE Act.
Thune pushed back against the President's comments, suggesting that Trump should show him how to get results on the bill.
"If somebody can show me how we get an outcome, how we get a result, how we get an answer to this, I'm all for it," Thune said.
"But if we are going to be sitting here in endless quorum calls, I don't know if that's in anybody's best interest," he added.
Thune also lashed out at White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who had earlier told reporters that the President is "running out" of patience for Thune.
"She or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes, right?" Thune asked reporters.
"Instead of you know pointing the finger at Republicans, they might think about going after the people who are stopping it on the floor, which is the Democrats, and if there are Republicans that they think are gettable, get on the phone," he added.
Thune's statement appeared to be at odds with his own acknowledgment that members of his caucus are not currently willing to vote for the bill, and the White House's criticism of Republicans for blocking its passage.
