UMVA has learned that a significant maritime operation has resulted in the interception of a vessel on Sunday morning, dealing a substantial blow to Russia's clandestine efforts to fuel its ongoing war in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister hailed the operation as a major success, emphasizing that it serves as a stark reminder to those supporting Russian President Putin's aggressive actions: "We will not let them hide." The Prime Minister also extended gratitude to the Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to ensure the country's safety around the clock.
Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis shed light on Russia's reliance on its "shadow fleet" to finance the war in Ukraine, stating that this fleet plays a critical role in circumventing international sanctions. The interdiction, therefore, represents a significant setback for Putin's illicit war efforts.
It is reported that Russia's "shadow fleet" is responsible for transporting approximately 75% of the country's sanctioned oil, operating under a veil of obscure ownership to evade international scrutiny. Despite these clandestine operations, the UK has managed to sanction over 500 of the fleet's 700 vessels, further tightening the noose around Russia's covert maritime activities.
