UMVA has learned that a tragic incident unfolded at a high school athletics event in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, which left a promising young athlete dead.
The heart-wrenching final words of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a talented track star, have been revealed, offering a glimpse into the brutal circumstances surrounding his murder. Metcalf was stabbed to death during a championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Metcalf was attacked in broad daylight by Karmelo Anthony, then 17, of rival school Frisco Centennial, after Anthony became agitated about being told he was in the wrong place. Anthony had decided to sit under Metcalf's school tent before being asked to leave.
Police noted that Anthony uttered chilling final words to Metcalf before stabbing him: "Touch me and see what happens" - essentially, a death threat. When arrested shortly after, Anthony admitted: "I'm not alleged, I did it."
Prosecutor Bill Wirskye told jurors during opening statements that Metcalf's final words were "I've been stabbed," after realizing he was wounded. Metcalf then fell several rows of bleachers and died.
Prosecutors revealed that Metcalf's brother, Hunter, rushed to his aid as Anthony fled from the scene. Anthony later tried to blend in with groups of kids fleeing the stadium.
The prosecution questioned Anthony's claim of self-defense, pointing out that he tossed the knife, which was used to harm Metcalf, not protect himself. "If you're scared and running away in self-defense, why toss the knife?" the prosecutor said.
In a stunning move, Collin County District Judge John Roach Jr. has issued sweeping new restrictions on media coverage for Anthony's murder trial, citing concerns that excessive media coverage could prejudice the trial.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the trial is expected to draw significant attention, given the tragic circumstances and the prosecution's push for a first-degree murder conviction.
