HIGGINS SHOCKS SNOOKER LEGEND: O’SULLIVAN CRUSHED!

HIGGINS SHOCKS SNOOKER LEGEND: O’SULLIVAN CRUSHED!

The Crucible Theatre witnessed a stunning comeback as John Higgins battled his way into the World Snooker Championship quarter-finals, overcoming a formidable Ronnie O’Sullivan in a match for the ages.

O’Sullivan initially seized control, displaying breathtaking form with a series of impressive breaks – 86, 82, 137, and 95 – establishing a commanding 4-1 lead. The opening session concluded with a 6-2 advantage for the seven-time world champion, leaving Higgins facing a significant uphill battle.

But the narrative dramatically shifted on Sunday evening. Higgins ignited a spark, taking the first frame with conviction. O’Sullivan responded with a 116 and an 80, extending his lead to 8-3, seemingly cruising towards victory.

Then came the turning point. Higgins, refusing to surrender, embarked on a remarkable run, winning three consecutive frames in dramatic fashion. Frustration visibly mounted for O’Sullivan, culminating in a striking display of emotion as he punched the table, ending the night with a narrowed 9-7 lead.

Monday afternoon’s final session promised a thrilling climax, and Higgins delivered. He found a new level of precision, constructing breaks of 59, 118, and 128 to seize the lead for the first time at 10-9, leaving O’Sullivan reeling.

The Rocket, however, is a champion for a reason. He responded with a crucial 62, leveling the match at the mid-session interval. The momentum continued to swing as O’Sullivan crafted a 93 to regain the lead, demonstrating his resilience under immense pressure.

Higgins, however, proved equally determined. He answered with a magnificent 111, tying the score once more at 11-11. The Wizard then conjured an 88, bringing him within one frame of victory, only for O’Sullivan to respond with an 81, forcing a tense deciding frame.

The final frame was a nail-biting affair, filled with missed opportunities for both players. But it was Higgins who ultimately held his nerve, securing the win and a place in the quarter-finals, where he will face either Neil Robertson or Chris Wakelin in his pursuit of a fifth world title.

“I came to the party, at last!” Higgins exclaimed to the BBC, reflecting on his hard-fought victory. “I gave myself a chance, and the table played a lot better today.” The match will be remembered as a testament to Higgins’ unwavering spirit and a classic encounter at the Crucible.
