Two killed in separate Durham Region collisions; five injured in waterfront shooting

Two fatalities were reported in Durham Region after separate collisions involving pedestrians. The first incident occurred late Saturday evening in a Pickering parking lot. A 68‑year‑old man was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene after emergency responders attempted life‑saving measures. The driver remained present and cooperated with authorities.

The second fatality took place in Ajax earlier in the afternoon. A 64‑year‑old woman was hit by a dump truck while attempting a right turn on Hunt Street. She also died at the scene despite medical assistance. The truck driver stayed at the location and worked with investigators.

In a separate matter, a 30‑year‑old man was charged following a knife altercation in East York. The confrontation involved a knife threat and alleged intent to harm a pet. The suspect was arrested and faces multiple charges including assault and threatening behavior.
