England's Pubs to Close Early for World Cup Match Despite Extended Hours Approval

England's Pubs to Close Early for World Cup Match Despite Extended Hours Approval

Thousands of football fans will be pleased to know that many pubs will be allowed to stay open late to show upcoming matches. However, not all establishments have chosen to take advantage of this opportunity. Some pubs have decided against extending their hours, citing concerns about disrupting their local communities.

One such pub is The Three Horseshoes in Witney, Oxfordshire, which will not be opening for the England match. The co-owner of the pub explained that the decision was made out of respect for their local neighbors, who may not appreciate the noise at 5am. The pub's owner also noted that they are not a nightclub and do not want to disturb their community.

In contrast, some larger pub chains have announced plans to stay open late for the match. Over 600 pubs across England will be staying open to show the game, giving fans the chance to come together and celebrate. The atmosphere in these pubs is expected to be lively, with fans eager to soak up the occasion and cheer on their team.

England's progress in the tournament has generated significant excitement among fans, and many are looking forward to watching the upcoming match against Mexico. The team's victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo has set the stage for a thrilling competition, and fans will be eager to gather in pubs and cheer on their team.

The decision to allow pubs to stay open late has been welcomed by many in the industry, who see it as an opportunity to bring people together and create a lively atmosphere. However, the number of pubs in the UK has been declining in recent years, from 46,829 in 2020 to 44,656 in 2025. Despite this trend, many pubs are still thriving and are expected to be busy for the upcoming match.
