For years, the humble laptop webcam has been the default for video calls. But for those of us craving better quality – especially with the rise of external monitors – a dedicated webcam often feels like a necessity. Before rushing to spend money, consider the powerful camera already in your pocket.
Most smartphones boast cameras far superior to those built into laptops. Tapping into this existing technology for work or personal calls is surprisingly simple, offering a significant visual upgrade with minimal effort. It’s a solution many overlook, assuming a complex setup is required.
Samsung Galaxy users, however, have historically faced a hurdle. While third-party apps offered a workaround, native webcam support wasn’t integrated into the operating system. This meant an extra step, and potentially, many Galaxy owners remained unaware of their phone’s webcam potential.
That’s now changing. Samsung is rolling out native webcam support to its latest Galaxy S26 series – including the S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra. The implementation mirrors the seamless experience found on Pixel devices, making it instantly familiar to Android users.
This isn’t the only exciting update for Galaxy S26 owners. Samsung has also introduced AirDrop-like functionality, allowing wireless file transfers to iPhones via Quick Share. A feature once considered impossible, it bridges the gap between Android and iOS ecosystems.
Using your Galaxy S26 as a webcam is remarkably straightforward. Begin by opening the USB settings on your phone and selecting “Webcam” under “Use USB for.” Connect your phone to your computer via a USB cable.
A notification will appear on your S26, confirming the USB connection. Tap this notification and choose “Webcam” when prompted. Your phone will then enter webcam mode, displaying a viewfinder to adjust your angle.
Finally, select your Galaxy S26 as the camera source within your preferred video conferencing application. The difference in image quality should be immediately noticeable, transforming your video calls with a clarity you didn’t know you had.
