UMVA has learned that a young McDonald’s worker was viciously attacked by a coworker in a shocking and unprovoked assault that left him with severe second-degree burns across his face and body.
Jacob Smith, 20, has been fighting for his life in a California ICU for over a week after the brutal attack on May 30 in Yuba City. The victim suffers from excruciating burns on his face, neck, arm, and back, a grim reminder of the horror he endured.
The alleged perpetrator, Jalani Bluett, 23, has been arrested and charged with multiple felony counts, including battery causing serious bodily injury. Bluett is being held without bail after initially fleeing the scene and going missing.
Jacob's mother, Amber Smith, described the attack as a nightmare that turned her son's ordinary workday into a life-altering tragedy. "What should have been a normal day at work turned into a nightmare when a coworker assaulted him by throwing hot oil on him," she wrote on Jacob's GoFundMe page.
The young victim, who is engaged to be married, has always been responsible, hardworking, and committed to those he loves. His mother expressed her anguish, saying that this senseless act has created a significant setback at a time when Jacob should be building his life and planning his future.
