CA Dem Drops Jaw-Dropping Immigration Truth Bomb – Internet ERUPTS on Debate Stage

The California governor’s debate just exploded into a firestorm. Former Rep. Katie Porter, a Democrat fighting for the state’s top job, dropped a bombshell: illegal immigrants are the only reason California is still growing.

Porter didn’t flinch when asked about deportations. “The sanctuary state policy is designed to make sure state resources focus on their jobs, not on cooperating with federal immigration authorities,” she declared. Then came the kicker that lit up social media: “These are Californians—they contribute to our economy, pay taxes, and they’re one of the only ways our state has been growing in recent years.”

The backlash was instant and brutal. A popular right-wing account accused Porter of finally saying “the quiet part out loud”—that illegal immigration has propped up a state bleeding residents. Republicans, including President Trump, have long argued Democrats resist deportations because illegal immigrants counted in the Census secure more House seats for California.

“So she’s saying Cali has too many seats in the House?” one user shot back. Trump has pushed to add a citizenship question to the Census, but the Constitution doesn’t mention citizenship in apportionment—a legal reality that infuriates conservatives.

The numbers are staggering. An estimated 400,000 illegal immigrants entered California between 2021 and 2023, while the state’s entire population grew by fewer than 20,000 during that same period. Domestic migration is a bloodbath—California lost a net 215,542 residents to other states in 2025 alone, offset by a net gain of 125,473 from foreign migration.

Critics didn’t stop at the Census angle. One user twisted the knife with a brutal metaphor about millionaires fleeing California “faster than pouring boiling potatoes on your ex’s head”—a reference to an abuse allegation against Porter. Others, like Sen. Mike Lee, ripped her economic logic: “If you think the best way to promote economic growth involves letting in illegal aliens, you’re doing it wrong.”

Porter’s defenders point to the $8.5 billion in state and local taxes illegal immigrants paid in 2022. But conservatives argue they consume far more in schools and healthcare—costs that are nearly impossible to pin down. A recent HUD study also linked illegal immigration to rising housing costs, adding fuel to the fire.

At the debate, Sheriff Chad Bianco, one of the two Republicans on stage, simply said: “I contained myself well, I think.” The subtext was clear—this fight is far from over, and Porter just handed her opponents a loaded weapon.
