Maguindanao blast injures five, authorities investigate.

A grenade attack on a highway near Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao del Sur injured two soldiers and three civilians on Saturday.

Police reports that two suspects on motorcycles targeted a KM‑450 vehicle carrying soldiers from the 4th Scout Ranger Company of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion. One of the attackers hurled a grenade toward the vehicle, but the explosive missed the target, landing beside the road before detonating.

The blast inflicted shrapnel wounds on Corporals Jessie Jay H. Bulanay and Arnel C. Calapan, as well as civilians John Dave Usman Santiago, Bassir Amban Batong, and Pamiya Upam Bulingkig.

Security cameras from nearby businesses captured the suspects arriving on a motorcycle, stopping briefly, then one of them throwing the grenade and fleeing with the driver.

Police and Army forces have launched a joint manhunt to locate and apprehend the attackers. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
