Houthis, an Iran‑backed group based in Yemen, claimed over the weekend that they had struck two facilities belonging to Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil company.
In response, the U.S. President announced that the United States would hold Iran responsible for the attacks and would impose major military punishment on both Iran and the Houthis.
The group had already begun targeting shipping in the Red Sea earlier in the week, prompting heightened security concerns in the region.
"The U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a surrogate and/or proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves," the President said.
The situation remains under close observation by Saudi authorities and international partners as the conflict unfolds.
