Man Creates Fake Tinder Profile Targeting Ex-Girlfriend, Inciting Strangers to Commit Violent Acts Against Her.

Man Creates Fake Tinder Profile Targeting Ex-Girlfriend, Inciting Strangers to Commit Violent Acts Against Her.

A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for creating a fake dating profile using his former partner's photos and address, tricking at least 18 men into believing she wanted to act out a "rape fantasy" before they arrived at her home.

The perpetrator used multiple mobile phones to operate the fake account and would park in a nearby location to his victim's home, allowing him to maintain control over the situation. He was convicted of stalking, assault, and failing to disclose the pin to an iPad seized during the investigation.

The victim described the experience as a "terrifying ordeal" that has left her with mental scars, saying her home and sense of safety were violated by the perpetrator's actions. She expressed concern about the potential for further harm, wondering how many men still have her information and what might happen if she encounters one of them.

The victim also stated that she was targeted because she said "no" to the perpetrator, who wanted her to be isolated, alone, and scared. She described the experience as "unfair" and said it has taken a significant toll on her mental health, causing her to struggle with sleep and eating.

The perpetrator's defense argued that he did not accept the jury's verdict, claiming he had done nothing wrong. However, the judge issued a 15-year restraining order against the victim and her daughters, acknowledging the severity of the situation.

Law enforcement officials described the perpetrator as "exceptionally controlling and deceitful," saying he went to extreme lengths to cause fear and distress to the victim and her children. The investigation was complex and disturbing, but it demonstrated that the internet does not provide a sanctuary for those who wish to commit violence against women and girls or domestic abuse.

The victim and her family are now seeking closure and attempting to rebuild their lives following the sentencing. The case highlights the importance of addressing stalking and domestic abuse, and the need for continued efforts to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
