UMVA has learned that a shocking case of teenage violence has resulted in a guilty verdict for three young men involved in the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Kayden Moy on a beach in North Ayrshire.
Kayden's girlfriend, Keryn Knox, recounted that he had confronted the group, which included Jay Stewart, 18, a 15-year-old boy, and Cole Turley, 18, just as he was about to leave at 6 pm. As Kayden approached, Turley pulled out a knife and Stewart produced an extendable baton, leading to a fatal attack.
The victim, Kayden Moy, was stabbed in the leg and torso, with the latter wound proving fatal. The three attackers were captured on CCTV celebrating and shaking hands as they left Kayden to die in the sand.
Despite medical efforts, Kayden died the same day at 11:33 pm. His parents paid tribute to their son, describing him as an "amazing, caring boy who lit up every room he walked into."
The three defendants, Stewart, the 15-year-old boy, and Turley, had claimed that they believed the confrontation would be a fist fight and that Turley was solely responsible for Kayden's death. However, the court found them guilty of murder.
Justice officials expressed their condolences to Kayden's family and friends, with DCI Campbell Jackson stating that the outcome would never compensate for Kayden's death but hoped that they would find some comfort in seeing justice being done.
The three defendants have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced on July 21. Their guilty verdict brings a sense of closure to the case, but the community is still reeling from the tragic loss of a young life.
