A weekend of reckless driving unfolded in Caledon, as police intervened in a series of dangerous incidents. Four drivers were taken off the roads, accused of operating vehicles while impaired, and six others faced charges for aggressive stunt driving. The sheer volume of infractions paints a disturbing picture of disregard for public safety.
The first incident occurred early Saturday morning, around 1 a.m., when officers responded to a concerned citizen’s report on Highway 10. They quickly located a vehicle and a driver, Esmeralda Melendez, 27, of Tottenham, who allegedly showed clear signs of alcohol impairment. Charges were immediately laid.
Less than an hour later, another driver, Fabricio Sarabia, 41, of Toronto, was pulled over on Highway 50 for a routine traffic stop. The encounter quickly escalated, leading to charges of impaired driving. The proximity of these two incidents raised immediate concerns about a pattern of dangerous behavior.
Sunday brought a more dramatic turn with a single-vehicle collision on Airport Road. Officers arriving at the scene charged Simran Dhaliwal, 22, of Hillsburgh, with impaired driving, highlighting the potential for devastating consequences when alcohol and vehicles collide.
The early hours of Monday saw yet another single-vehicle crash, this time on Innislake Road. Sukman, 26, of Brampton, faced a double charge: not only for impaired driving, but also for refusing to comply with a breathalyzer demand and for having readily available liquor inside the vehicle.
Beyond impaired driving, officers also responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 9, leading to the arrest of Apinesh Eswaradevan, 20, of Toronto. He was charged with breaching his recognizance and possessing stolen property valued under $5,000. Two others, Abinesh Gunabalasingam and an 18-year-old from Brampton, shared the same charges.
The six drivers accused of stunt driving now face immediate consequences: a 30-day license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment. These penalties serve as a stark warning to anyone tempted to endanger others with reckless speed or maneuvers.
