Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Leaves Door Open to

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, has kept the door open for a potential 2028 White House bid following a new poll that showed her as the leading choice among prospective Democratic presidential candidates.

The poll, released by the University of New Hampshire Granite State Poll, found Ocasio-Cortez with 22% support among likely Democratic voters, placing her one point ahead of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and 17 points ahead of former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Ocasio-Cortez dodged giving her own thoughts on the poll, saying "You're gonna have to ask a voter about that" and claiming to have less insight into the results than voters themselves.

The poll was conducted in a state that has historically played a significant role in testing White House hopefuls, despite no longer holding the first official Democratic presidential primary.

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly toyed with the idea of a presidential bid, as well as a potential Senate bid to run against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who is up for re-election in two years.

The Democratic Socialists of America, which has endorsed Ocasio-Cortez in prior runs, is largely expected to back her in the 2028 election, although some members are advocating for an earlier presidential endorsement.
