UMVA has learned that a beloved publishing house, Exploding Galaxies, is marking its third anniversary with a special celebration at The Brewman Coffee House in Cubao Expo, Cubao, Quezon City.
On June 20, from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m., the publishing house will offer a 20% discount on its books, excluding Canticles for Dark Lovers, and provide a free coffee to the first 50 customers who make a purchase. Each book will come with new stickers and an author bookmark, while supplies last.
Exploding Galaxies will also be selling its Sarap cap and tote bags at the event. This unique celebration offers book lovers a chance to discover new titles, meet fellow readers, and enjoy a cup of coffee in a cozy setting.
Meanwhile, West Gallery is set to unveil two exciting group exhibitions this month, featuring a diverse range of artists. Seryosong Usapan sa Madilim na Area showcases works by visual artists Froilan Calayag, Joey Cobcobo, and several others, while DISC.CUSSION brings together a talented group of artists, including Poeleen Alvarez, Diana Aviado, and Pandy Aviado.
The exhibitions will run from June 18 to July 18 at West Gallery, 48 West Ave., Quezon City. Art enthusiasts can explore the galleries and experience the creative energy of these emerging and established artists.
The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is offering discounted admission rates throughout June to celebrate Philippine Independence Day, Pride Month, and its newest exhibition, Threads of Dreams. Visitors can enjoy an all-access pass for P300, a significant discount from the regular P550 rate.
Senior citizens and persons with disabilities can enter for P240, while students can avail of the promotional rate of P150. The exhibition features selected works from the museum’s permanent collection, including Seams of Memory and Femme Hommage.
Ateneo de Manila University Press has launched a free book club to introduce readers to new books and provide a space for discussion. The club will hold monthly discussions, with opportunities to ask authors questions, and will be moderated by a member of the Ateneo Press and a co-host from the Filipino book community.

The Japan Foundation, Manila, in partnership with Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA), will bring the traveling exhibition OMOCHA: Japanese Toys Today to Iloilo City from June 27 to July 26. The exhibition features over 70 types of contemporary Japanese toys, showcasing the evolution of Japanese toy culture from the Edo period to the present.
Visitors can view iconic franchises such as Gundam, Hello Kitty, and Pokémon, as well as interactive displays featuring traditional and modern toys. The exhibition and its accompanying events will be free, with a preview reception scheduled for June 26 at ILOMOCA.
The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will present a special concert, 80 Years of Filipino-American Friendship, on July 4 at the Manila Metropolitan Theater. The concert commemorates the 80th anniversary of Philippine independence and marks the orchestra’s return to its longtime artistic home.
Under the baton of conductor Jose Reyna, Jr., the program will feature a range of musical pieces, including Antonino Buenaventura’s Youth and George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture. Soloists will include Juilliard-trained violinist Jeanne Marquez and Filipino-American clarinetist Jason Marquez.
